Health-Related Scriptures
(borrowed from Dr. Haselden's web page)

Because I am a devout Christian, I must weigh all of what I learn in the field of health by the Word. Similarly, as I read the Word, very frequently I see spiritual principles that parallel natural health principles that I have learned. There are additionally many scriptures that overtly address health matters. In this section I will offer a scripture and follow it with a natural health parallel of that scripture.

They that are whole do not need a physician. Matthew 9:12 and Luke 5:31 Comment: This scripture actually presumes that it is possible to be whole! What a novel idea! Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could all be whole physically and not ever need a physician. It's actually possible but most Christians don't think so.

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. I Corinthians 6:20 ..... Our body is God's. How do we glorify Gody with our body? Taking good care of it and not abusing it is the obvious way to do it. We need to be a good custodian of all of the gifts that God gives us.

Physician, heal thyself. Luke 4:23.....Comment: It is actually possible to heal yourself. Jesus, our creator, designed the body to be self-healing

Be not deceived; for God is not mocked: whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. Galations 6:7..... Comment: This is so true in every aspect of life but probably as much so in matters of health as anything else. If we sow the seeds of disease we will certainly reap disease sooner or later. If we sow the seeds of health we will reap health.

When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is set before thee: and put a knife to thy throat if thou be a man of appetite. Be not desirous of his dainties: for they are deceitful meat. Proverbs 23: 1-3 ..... The wisdom of this scripture has been proven with modern research. See my article about sugar in the Nutrition section of this site. You will be amazed.

Please your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink (12) ...... At the end of ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who at the royal food. (15) Daniel 1: 12 -17 ..... This was the first medical experiment mentioned in the Bible. Simply put, the Daniel diet was closer to the Genesis diet and produced excellent health when compared to rich diet (ie. the standard American diet).

...the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. Matthew 26:41 ..... Sometimes we know the right thing to do and even want to do the right thing BUT our flesh takes over and we do the wrong thing. Even non-Christians seem to quote this scripture very often. It seems to be a universal problem.

...I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore, chose life that both thou and thy seed may live. Deuteronomy 30:19 ..... We can make lifestyle choices that will extend our life and we have the right to make choices that will shorten our life. We should make life-promoting choices.

My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge: Hosea 4:6 ..... You can be the finest Christian on the earth, but if you are ignorant of natural laws that relate to your health, a violation of those laws may lead to your premature destruction. There is unfortunately no difference in longevity and causes of death in Christians and non-Christians.

All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. ........ I Cor 6:12 ..... This scripture is not related to nutrition only but its words describe precisely the relationship between a Christian and food. 1) What we eat has nothing to with our spiritually. 2) Some food is not good for us. 3) We should not allow ourselves to become addicted to anything..

Man does not live by bread alone but by every word of God. Luke 4:4 .....
Lifestyle correctness pales in comparison to one's spiritual correctness. BUT we have to eat to live. Both food and the word are necessary in the life of the Christian.

The wide gate has a broad road which leads to disaster and there are many people going that way. The narrow gate and the hard road lead out into life and only a few are finding it. Matthew 7:13-14 ..... Unfortunately the essence of this scripture is not only true on a spiritual plane but is equally as true on a physical level. Most people take the convenient and easy path in their lifestyle. Very few will ever make the hard commitment that leads to health and maximum longevity.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Galations 6:9 ..... In the process of making lifestyle changes to improve our health, we must be persistent in our efforts because results come over time. The results are certain if only we do not quite prematurely.

And God said, "Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. Genesis 1:29 ..... When God created man to live forever, he gave him the perfect fuel for the human body. That has never changed. All scientific knowledge about the human body indicates that this the perfect diet for man. That has never changed. Research has shown that the larger the amount of the Genesis foods in a person's diet then the greater a person's health and longevity.

Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. Genesis 9: 3,4 ..... Immediately after the flood, God allowed man to eat things other than the Genesis diet. Read my article Biblical Longevity in this section of my web site.

And the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground. Genesis 2:7..... Because we were created out of the dust of the earth, we need a continuing supply of "dust" to keep ourselves healthy. BUT we are not to eat dust - we are to eat dust that has been processed through the plant kingdom. This is the Genesis 1:29 diet. It is the only source of naturally-chelated minerals!

It shall be a perpetual statute for your generations throughout all your dwellings, that ye eat neither fat nor blood. Leviticus 3:17 There is certainly a spiritual basis for this verse but you will note that it says perpetual. The blood admonition is even repeated in the book of Acts where the gentile Christians we told to not drink blood or eat strangled meat. (The muscles of a strangled animal would necessarily be engorged with blood.) A fascinating book called The Chemistry of the Blood by M. R. DeHaan, MD addresses this subject exhaustively.

Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this said, This is a hard saying; who can hear it? John 6:60 ... From that time many of his disciples went back and walked no more with him. John 6:66 .....It takes great personal sacrifice to follow the spiritual path Jesus promoted. Similarly, it takes great personal sacrifice to follow the lifestyle that liberates the health God has for us. Many embark on that path but soon find that the sacrifice is too great and the road is too lonely and inconvenient.

...the curse causeless shall not come. Proverbs 26: 2 ..... There is a cause for every disease process. Most often the cause can be found in faulty lifestyle.

While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest....shall not cease. Genesis 8:22 ..... Seedtime and harvest is essentially sowing and reaping. As long as the earth remains we are subject to natural laws. If we sow health by obeying natural law, we will reap health. If we sow seeds of disease by disobeying natural law, we will reap disease.

I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:1,2 ..... The "and" at the beginning of verse 2, of course, connects the two verses. There is a world system of dietetics that leads to a breakdown of the health of the human body. To get out of that system requires one to renew their mind to God's system of dietetics. God designed the body to be healthy but that is impossible unless it is supplied the fuel it was designed to run on.

But I keep under my body, and bring it under subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway..... I Corinthians 9:27 ..... I feel that all Christians have an obligation to take care of their body to the extent they know to do so. Failure to do so might lead to a failure on health, disease, and ultimately premature death. How many wonderful Christians have had their lives short-circuited because of their failure in this area. How many more lives might have been saved had their health been better so they could have lived a little longer. Far too often, the destiny the Lord has for us is short-circuited by a fork or spoon.

.... for He maketh His sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. Matthew 5:45 ..... Sun and rain is good. This good lands on the good and the bad. God's laws of nature are good and they express themselves equally on the saved and the unsaved. Christians are not immune to the laws of nature.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. I Peter 5:8 ..... I feel that the devil is the mastermind of all of the disease and suffering of mankind. This scripture presumes that satan's forces seek the weak. In the physical realm, we are obligated to keep our physical health at the highest level of vibrance so that we are strong against these forces.

The thief cometh not but to kill, steal, and destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10:10

If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. I Corinthians 3:17

For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. I John 3:8b
